  1. Perhaps worth noting, the acceptor for Best Foreign Film, Anousheh Ansari (accepting for Asghar Farhadi’s The Salesman) was the first Iranian to fly in space. (and her family is the sponsor of the Ansari X Prize).

  2. @JJ — I read several versions of that on the BBC and was appalled, wondering why didn’t PWC put the category on the outside of the envelope, in large friendly letters so that the presenter would be able to crosscheck? And now I see in Mike’s thread on fannish versions of the gaffe that the data \is/ on the envelope — so why didn’t Beatty read it offstage and stop? I wonder whether doing to many movies and too little stage work makes actors think anything can be fixed in post-production if not a retake.
And I was amused that one of the BBC stories on the mess twice referred to genre director M. Night Shyalaman; can’t they be bothered to proofread?

  3. @JJ: The Oscars also showed the photo of (living) producer Jan Chapman in place of (deceased) Janet Patterson in the “in memoriam” segment; they got the name/occupation right, but the photo. . . . Read more at Yahoo!.

  4. @Mike Glyer: Yes 😉 … oh and Chapman said, “I had urged her agency to check any photograph which might be used and understand that they were told that the Academy had it covered.” Oh they had it covered, all right.

Screen Junkies always has an amusing recap of the Oscars (their fake awards, the Grouchies), this time including a whole section at the end about the Best Picture screw-up:
