  1. Looks like a good ballot. I’ve read or have three of the novels, one of the novellas and two of the novelettes.

  2. Congratulations to the finalists! I have read 4/6 of the novels, and 4/6 of the novellas. Looking forward to checking out anything I haven’t read yet!

  3. Oddly enough, I spent some time filling out my Hugo ballot this morning before these nominees were announced.

I’ve read 4 1/2 of the novel nominees. Only one of them (the Martine) is on my Hugo ballot, but I did think the Harrow and the Muir were very good. As it happens, I just finished the Harrow yesterday. I didn’t especially care for the Moreno-Garcia, and I dnfed the Pinsker — love her shorts, but at novel-length it bored me.

I’ve only read one of the nominated vellas so far, but it’s a killer. Y’all know the one I’m talking about!

And I’ve only read one of the YA nominees so far — the Lee — and only thought it was okay. I’ve been trying to read a bunch of YA this year, so I’m disappointed that I don’t seem to have caught more nominees in my TBR!

  4. Congratulations to all the nominees!

So far I’ve read 4/6 novels, 3/6 novellas, 4/6 novelettes, and 3/6 short stories. Looks like all of the short stories are from the free-to-read online magazines, so it should be easy enough to read all of them.

The novel list in my view is particularly strong, at least judging by the ones I’ve read. (Although last year was, I think, just a good year for novels — I’m having a hard time cutting down my Hugo longlist.)

  5. Well I don’t think I’ve read any of the fiction nominees—my to-read list just got a little longer!

  6. @Contrarius, re: YA novels … have you read Minor Mage by Oor Wombat? (I don’t recall offhand if it’s a T. Kingfisher or an Ursula Vernon book).

  7. I’ve only read a few. Finished “ Gods of Jade and Shadow” earlier this week. Great book, deserving nominee imo.

  8. @Cassy B — No, I haven’t read it. I do almost all my “reading” through audiobooks, and that one doesn’t seem to have an audio edition yet!
