The awards will be presented at World Fantasy Con 2019 to be held in Los Angeles October 31-November 3.

  2. Did they loosen up the no Science Fiction rule? I don’t remember anything non-SF about the Tea Master and the Detective. I am not against, but I am surprised.

Interesting — there have been a number of Life Achievement winners who were editors (e.g., Hartwell, Datlow, Asher), artists (e.g., Cartier, the Dillons) and even publishers (e.g., Doherty, Betty Ballantine), but this is the first time since they started giving two LA awards each year that both are going to people who don’t do text fiction — and the first ever to a scholar/translator. I have mixed feelings about the novel nominees I’ve read*, but that’s usual; at least I’ve read most of them, thanks partly to comments here that get me reading interesting current work rather than pulling things out of the several-years-high Mt. TBR.
