43rd Annie Award Nominees

Annie-Awards-asifa-hollywood1The International Animated Film Society, ASIFA-Hollywood, announced the nominees for its 43rd Annual Annie Awards on December 1.

The award, created in 1982 by voice actor June Foray, recognizes the year’s best in the field of animation in multiple categories, such as storyboarding, character design, visual effects, editing and directing. Altogether there are 36 categories, including a first-timer —

“This year we introduced an important new category – Best Feature-Independent,” says ASIFA-Hollywood President, Jerry Beck. “We will now recognize not only features in wide release, but also the independent animators, international studios, anime and special productions that might not otherwise get the attention they deserve.”

Annie Award winners will be announced February 6.

Juried Awards honoring career achievement and exceptional contributions to animation also will be presented:

Three Winsor McCay recipients have been selected by the ASIFA-Hollywood Board of Directors: Joe Ranft, Phil Roman and Isao Takahata for their career contributions to the art of animation.

  1. The Good Dinosaur has been out for all of a week and it’s gotten nominated? Argh. Still not gonna watch in the theatres, but definitely on my watchlist. Hopefully this means that Pixar is back on it’s game after the Cars related mishaps. Inside Out was excellent, if not surprisingly heavy going. I had to take a couple of breaks while watching it.

The nominated Steven Universe episode is *fan*tas*tic*. So happy it’s there.
