2013 Hugo Nominator Eligibility Deadline

The nomination period for the 2013 Hugo Awards and John W. Campbell Award is now open and will continue until March 10, 2013.

Nomination is open to anyone who is an Adult, Young Adult, or Supporting member of LoneStarCon 3 or Loncon 3 (the 2014 Worldcon) as of January 31, 2013, as well as all Adult, Young Adult, and Supporting members of Chicon 7 (the 2012 Worldcon).

The Loncon 3 committee has issued a press release reminding prospective members that one of the advantages of joining by January 31 is having the right to nominate in the 2013 Hugos.

2013 HUGO AWARDS – DEADLINE APPROACHING FOR RIGHT TO NOMINATE

LONDON, UK – Loncon 3, the 72nd World Science Fiction Convention ("Worldcon"), today issued a reminder that the deadline is fast approaching to gain the right to nominate for the 2013 Hugo Awards and John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer.

To be entitled to submit a nomination ballot you must join LoneStarCon 3 (the 2013 Worldcon) or Loncon 3 (the 2014 Worldcon) as a Supporting, Attending, or Young Adult member by 31 January, 2013, or have been a Supporting or Attending member of Chicon 7, the 2012 Worldcon.

Non-members of Loncon 3 and Pre-Supporting members of the London in 2014 Bid are encouraged to upgrade to a Supporting or Attending membership in Loncon 3 before 31 January to be able to nominate in the 2013 Hugo Nomination process. Details are available on-line at http://www.loncon3.org/membership. Note that the Pre-Supporting membership benefits will expire on 30 April 2013.

LoneStarCon 3 is administering the 2013 Hugo Awards, and more information, including details on how to submit a nomination ballot, is available from http://www.LoneStarCon3.org/hugo-awards/. Ballots may be submitted by postal mail or on-line. On-line voters will need a unique Personal Identification Number (PIN) to enter their ballot; these are being issued to members of Chicon 7, LoneStarCon 3 and Loncon 3 by email. Note that it is possible that one person can receive more than one PIN, but only one nomination ballot can be submitted per person per year.

Members of Loncon 3 will also be able to nominate and vote for the 2014 Hugo Awards in 2014, and will be able to nominate for the 2015 Hugo Awards.

The Hugo Awards are the premier award of the science fiction genre, honouring science fiction literature and media as well as fans of the genre. The Hugo Awards were first presented at the 1953 World Science Fiction Convention in Philadelphia (Philcon II), and they have continued to honour science fiction and fantasy notables for nearly 60 years.
