Showtime Commits To Rachel Bloom Project

‘Ray Bradbury’ Viral Sensation Sells Musical Comedy to Showtime reads the headline in the Hollywood Reporter.

The cable network is developing Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, a half-hour comedy from Rachel Bloom with musical elements about a girl who upends her life to stalk an ex.

Bloom, whose 2010 musical YouTube ode to the sci-fi legend (below) has more than 2.1 million hits, will write the script for CBS Television Studios and executive produce alongside Aline Brosh McKenna.

Besides the Hugo-nominated Bradbury song, Bloom’s writing credits include Robot Chicken and Allen Gregory, and she has performed at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater.

McKenna’s resume is the deepest of the tandem – she wrote The Devil Wears Prada, recently collaborated on Annie and Cinderella, and just signed to write Disney’s Cruella, a live-action feature based on the 101 Dalmatians character.
