Alan Rodgers Photos

By Andrew Porter: The photos of Alan Rodgers I’ve seen attached to his obituaries bear little relation to the author I knew in NYC in the 1980s. So, here’s my photo of Alan, upon winning his Bram Stoker Award for 1987’s “The Boy Who Came Back from the Dead”, plus another, from 1990.

  1. Mr. Porter-
I cannot tell you what it means to me to see these pictures. Throughout my childhood, my father struggled with alcoholism to the point where it seemed it even changed his brain chemistry. The generous man of my youth disappeared over time, and the kindness left his eyes. Between the heart attack, the constant fear of stroke/death due to a blood-clot in his neck, and the alcoholism, I slowly watched the man I love deteriorate until I no longer felt safe or loved by him. I cannot tell you what it means to me to see pictures of him before the kindness left his eyes. I want to thank you most sincerely for posting these, they made me cry and smile. I even printed and framed the one with the Bram Stoker award (that beautiful wooden award was always on a bookshelf somewhere throughout my childhood). It is so wonderful to see pictures of my father with his life all ahead of him.
    Thank you so much,
    Andy Rodgers
