  1. The Steinbeck, because, although its title is a reference to a dramatic presentation, it’s neither a play nor based on a dramatic presentation.

    -or-

The O’Neill, because it’s the only one which isn’t a novel.

    -or-

The middle one, because it’s the only one on which the author’s name is not prominently featured on the front cover.

  2. The Buffy one, because neither of its authors has written any work with “Moon” in the title.
(O’Neill wrote the plays A Moon for the Misbegotten and Moon of the Caribbees; Steinbeck wrote the novel (and later stage play) The Moon Is Down. As far as I can tell from Wikipedia, their own websites, and other bibliographies, neither Golden nor Holder has a “Moon” title.)

  3. THE ICEMAN COMETH because it has only two people on the cover.

BUFFY because you can’t read the author’s name.

BUFFY because the other two are by Nobel prize winners.

BUFFY because it does not have a single color background.

BUFFY because the other two titles start with the word “The”.

THE GRAPES OF WRATH because the other two use photographs rather than an artist’s rendition.

  4. (I was able to read the Buffy authors’ names, by enlarging the image and squinting, but clearly the authors and title are not the most important text on that cover.)

  5. “Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Blooded”, because, unlike the other two titles, it does not refer to something cold (“winter”, “iceman”), unless you count vampires as cold.
