Sci-Fest Radio Theatre will present the 1944 radio version of Frankenstein live on stage on January 11, 2016.

Scheduled to join the cast are Philip Anthony-Rodriguez (Grimm), Linda Park (Star Trek: Enterprise), Gates McFadden (Star Trek: The Next Generation), Alfred Molina (Spiderman II), and John Rabe (NPR’s Off-Ramp).

This fundraiser for Sci-Fest LA will also be the occasion to honor legendary filmmaker Roger Corman with the first-ever Sci-Fest LA Icon Award.

A wine reception, red carpet and silent auction begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Colony Theatre in Burbank. Corman will be honored at 8 p.m., and the performance will follow.

Tickets are being offered as a reward to donors who make a tax deductible donation of $100, $75 or $55.  See the Sci-Fest LA website for details.

  1. I don’t know why they wouldn’t credit the original anthology show it was part of; this appears to be the half-hour “The Weird Circle” version of Frankenstein, as broadcast on the Mutual Broadcasting Network. I can’t find any information on who wrote the script. Other old time radio versions of Frankenstein include a 13 part (almost three hours!) Australian version from 1931, a 1935 half-hour version that I can’t really recommend from The Witches Tale, and a half-hour Suspense version from 1952 and again 1955 (they re-used the script).

I could have sworn that Orson Welles’ Mercury Playhouse did an hour-long version, but I must have been thinking of Dracula.
