5 thoughts on “2016 Audie Awards Finalists

  1. I would recommend either listing only those entries which are of genre interest, or of at least listing all entries in the main categories. It’s really not cool that the Best Female Narrator category has been omitted from this announcement simply because none of the entries are genre works.

  2. Libba Bray’s Lair of Dreams is in the female narrator category and it certainly sounds “genre” enough. Hoping this was an inadvertent omission?

  3. BigelowT: Although I have researched some of these titles for sf/fantasy content, I did not check Lair of Dreams. Now that I have, it appears to be fantasy, so I have added the category it is in.

I use “Genre interest” pretty subjectively. It might mean a work of sf/fantasy. Or it could be somebody who’s been covered in a File 770 post, even if the Audie Award isn’t for a genre work — consider the listing here of Amanda Palmer’s category.

When I thought the Best Female Narrator category had no work of genre interest, it did cross my mind that people might put an unfavorable interpretation on my leaving it out. I decided I would feel better receiving the criticism than letting the anticipation of it drive my decision.

  4. Thank you for the explanation, Mike. The categories are somewhat odd, in general, but I’m sure they have their reasons for singling out “best narration by the author” and such.
