Morris Keesan Has Passed Away

Lori Meltzer announced this morning:

Morris Keesan was pronounced dead a few minutes ago. He was 63 years old, died of a brain tumor that was diagnosed on his birthday in January. He will be missed by his wife and son, sister and other family members, and many friends worldwide.

Keesan had been a science fiction fan for decades. His knowledge and analysis will be missed in the comment section here at File 770 – and I’ll also miss his generous emails rescuing me from innumerable copyediting mistakes.

Condolences may be sent to:

  1. Oh god, I will miss him, even as I haven’t spoken to him in years. Morris of the group of Boston fans that came out of Newton in the early 1970s, Morris of the quiet humor, Morris of the asymmetric beard (‘What have you done, Morris? Something’s different about you, but I can’t put my finger on it.’ ‘Actually you could, but I wouldn’t want you to’)
Lori, Joseph, I’m very sorry for your loss.

  2. I knew him in College, we flunked out of Clark U about the same year, IIRC.
    I knew him from Nesfa.
    And I drifted away.
I am sorry for your loss, Lori

  3. Heartbreaking. He was a smart, sweet and generous man. He and Lori were so kind to me when I moved to Boston, and he always had something interesting to say when we met up. My heart breaks for his wife and little boy. His memory for a blessing to all who knew him.

  4. I first met Morris through NESFA while in high school in 1969. We were part of a group of young people who grew up in fandom, going to NESFA meetings, conventions, and various outings. Later, Morris was a Freehold housemate with a cat who lived across the hall from me. After he moved from Freehold I would see him at conventions, RISFA and RISFA North gatherings, and had some interesting conversations. I was able to visit him one last time before Boskone and shared some memories of past days.
My condolences to Lori and family, Morris will be missed by many people. May his memory be for a blessing.

  5. I only knew him from comments here, but I’m so sorry to hear of his passing.

  7. I’m so sorry to hear of his loss. I never knew him except online, but I’ll miss him. Sympathies to his friends and family.

  8. I am truly sorry to hear of the loss of Morris. May my condolences and my prayers ease the pain of this loss in particular to his wife and son, sister and other family members, and many friends over the world. RIP

  9. Rest in peace, Morris, and condolences to his family and friends. I’m glad I got to meet him this summer. Wish he’d been with us longer.
