The shortlist for the Edge Hill Short Story Prize 2016 was announced May 4.

The UK-based award is given for excellence in a published short story collection. Besides the £10,000 main prize, there is also a £1,000 Readers’ Prize, and an additional category worth £500 acknowledging rising talents on Edge Hill University’s own MA Creative Writing course. The winners will be announced July 5.

• Angela Readman – Don’t Try This at Home
• Jessie Greengrass – An Account of the Decline of the Great Auk, According to the One Who Saw It
• Kate Clanchy – The Not-Dead and the Saved
• Stuart Evers – Your Father Sends his Love
• Thomas Morris – We Don’t Know What We’re Doing

Fans will immediately recognize that the Miéville is of genre interest. Reviews show the Readman, Greengrass, and Evers collections include some sf/fantasy tales, too.
