Cult Movie Bracket: Semifinal

Cult Movie Bracket Logo SMBy Hampus Eckerman: For each pair, vote for the top cult movie. Vote for what is memorable, what is fun, what is interesting, what is cult. You will have at least 24 hours to answer, but after that it depends on when I have time to count the votes.

1. ESSENCIAL CULT
The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
Dr. Strangelove or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964)

2. BATTLE OF BRITAIN
Rank the films from 1 to 3, 1 being best.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)
The Princess Bride (1987)

  1. 2. BATTLE OF BRITAIN
    1) The Princess Bride (1987)
    2) Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)
    3) Time Bandits (1981)

  2. DAMMIT, I asked that Strangelove and Rocky not be paired until the final.

    Totally unfair.

I’m gonna whine. Hampus, I think you did this on purpose 🙂

    my vote is
rocky vs time bandits (my fingers puke when I type that movies name) rocky wins
holy grail vs princess bride holy grail wins
    strangelove moves on unopposed

next to last round rocky vs holy grail rocky wins

final round called on account of both rocky and strangelove being so awesome and different they both deserve the title.

nothing to see here, move along….

  3. All considered on cultish-ness and not other merits:

    1. ESSENCIAL CULT
The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
Dr. Strangelove or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964)

    2. BATTLE OF BRITAIN
Rank the films from 1 to 3, 1 being best.

    (1) Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)
    (2) Time Bandits (1981)
    (3) The Princess Bride (1987)

If it does draw down to Picture Show versus Grail: does this mean 1975 was the year of peak cult?

  4. Cult Movie Bracket: Semifinal

    1. ESSENCIAL CULT
Dr. Strangelove or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964)

    2. BATTLE OF BRITAIN
3 – Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)
    2 – The Princess Bride (1987)
    1 – Time Bandits (1981)

  5. I almost hate to mention it (because heaven knows I make plenty of typos) but “essential” is spelled with a t….

    1. ESSENCIAL CULT
The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)

This choice wasn’t hard, with a bit of a mind-flip.

    2. BATTLE OF BRITAIN
Rank the films from 1 to 3, 1 being best.

1 Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)
    2 The Princess Bride (1987)
    3 Time Bandits (1981)

This, on the other hand was excruciating….

  6. “essential” is spelled with a t

It’s a joke. (Though the joke would work without the c, actually, since the basic meaning of ‘essential’ is ‘relating to essence’.)

  7. Perhaps I should have used “essenceial cult”. Would have made it a bit clearer. :/

  8. RESULTS:

    1. ESSENCIAL CULT
The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) – votes: 34
Dr. Strangelove or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964) – votes: 11

Jack D. Ripper never learned how to be a man and continued to deny everyone his essence. Meanwhile Dr. Frank N. Furter knew of how to swim the warm waters of sins of the flesh – erotic nightmares beyond any measure, and sensual daydreams to treasure forever.

So long, Dr. Strangelove. Maybe we’ll meet again.

WINNER: The Rocky Horror Picture Show

    2. BATTLE OF BRITAIN
Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975) – votes: 20 first, 19 second, 5 third
    The Princess Bride (1987) – votes: 21 first, 18 second, 7 third
    Time Bandits (1981) – votes: 6 first, 6 second, 30 third

This was a battle between two of the most quotable movies ever made. Monty Python turned the R.O.U.S in to newts, then they got better. Inigo challenged the black knight, but could never inflict anything more than scratch wounds. Even a duel to the pain only encouraged the Dingo and her fellow nuns.

In the end, a strange woman lying in a pond handed Inigo his fathers sword. King Arthur and his knights ran of on their coconuts, following the swallows on their way to Africa.

    WINNER: The Princess Bride
