Sony Pictures Entertainment’s animated Starship Troopers Traitor of Mars will be in theaters for one night only on August 21.

Would you like to know more?

C’mon You Apes, You Wanna Live Forever?! I have only one rule. Everybody fights, no one quits. The bugs have breached Mars and the Federation’s Fleet is too far to help. It’s up to us to save the planet. On the bounce, Troopers! The only Good Bug is a Dead Bug! Oorah!

Casper Van Dien and Dina Meyer return as the voices of Johnny Rico and Dizzy Flores alongside Comedian & Starship Troopers Super Fan DeRay Davis in an all-new military adventure from the writer of Starship Troopers and Robocop, Ed Neumeier.

Tickets go on sale from Fathom Events on June 19.

Imagine intentionally remembering to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the live-action Starship Troopers movie? Now that’s science fiction!

  1. These movie adaptations haven’t been my favorites, but I’ll try to be there cuz I like to support people branching out and making SF movies beyond the endless reboot big brand chains.

  2. Is that a follow up to the animated Roughnecks series that Sony cancelled (IMSMC) four episodes short of being completed? And yes that series is well worth seeing.

  3. If was related to Roughnecks, I’d go. That was the best adaptation EVAR. Still have the DVDs.

But judging by the voice actors, it seems to be a continuation of the terrible movies, I’ll give it a hard pass. Feed ’em to the Bugs.

    Yeah it was great.

The voice actors are different, a pity, but the animation itself suggests it’s set in the same universe. It might well be that getting back all the voice actors wasn’t possible. I’ll certainly watch it when it comes out on DVD.

  5. I’m confused. What if I’m busy that night? Wouldn’t they make more money by showing it for a regular run?

Wikipedia sez “The film is the fifth installment of the Starship Troopers film series and a sequel to the 2012 film Starship Troopers: Invasion.” I didn’t realize there had been others. I’m a bad fan. 😉

  6. That’s also the day of the total solar eclipse that will sweep across the entire country from Oregon to Georgia, so there’t that. Maybe everyone will be looking for something to do the rest of the day after the 2.5 minutes of totality.

  7. Kendall asks I’m confused. What if I’m busy that night? Wouldn’t they make more money by showing it for a regular run?

Stretching logic here way beyond the breaking point, don’t many of the film awarding groups require films to have at least a single day of being screened? Could it be Sony thinks it’s got some skin in the game for winning possibly technical awards? Maybe the Dragon Awards do so. After all, it might make the perfect Puppy approved film…

  8. Rose Embolism says And naturally the guy is in bulky armoire, and the woman is in a curve-hugging scoop top. Because of course.

Hopefully they won’t have a co-ed shower scene as the voice actress for Dizzy had such in the first film. I didn’t see a rating for this film, but I’m guessing R rated.

  9. Movies have to run in a theater for a week in LA or NYC to qualify for an Oscar.

This would seem to be an advertising event to promote the DVD/BR sales.

Yawn. As a continuation of the movies, I am sooo not interested. Bleh.
