Nominations Open for 2018 Dragon Awards

The Dragon Awards site has been updated to accept nominations for the 2018 awards.

Eligible works are those first released between 7/1/2017 and 6/30/2018.

The deadline to make nominations is July 20, 2018. The initial batch of final ballots will be released on August 1, 2018.

I tested the site and was informed my nomination had been accepted —

Well, there’s a nicely poetic description on their site about the symbolism of the Dragon and so on and so forth, but I think it mostly symbolises the need to get a bunch of identical trophies together without breaking the bank.
I think it’s fine myself, but maybe they should get a redesign soon. I wonder if Gahan Wilson dragon sculpture would do the trick, I can’t see any problems with that!

  2. The site says “Welcome to the second annual Dragon Awards!” Does that mean they can’t count or they don’t include the first year’s awards?

Pffft! I imagine they just changed the dates on the 2017 page and didn’t look at anything else. Also, I see nothing about this on the Dragon Awards front page or blog. No link to the nomination page either. Maybe they weren’t quite ready for this to be announced.

Based on their track record, they’d be announcing it next spring. But as people discussed here in comments on the last round of awards, there was a soft launch then, too, that benefited those who knew about it. This way everybody will know about it.

Definitely didn’t mean to imply that it shouldn’t have been announced….just that they might not have expected it since it doesn’t look like any other pages got updated on their site.

  6. No change to the categories, I see.

Possibly they are ignoring the first year – it would be wise, in some respects.
