Mary Rosenblum
By Dale Arnold: Mary Rosenblum, 65, science fiction author and the 1994 winner of the Compton Crook Award for her novel The Drylands died, March 11 when the small aircraft she was solo piloting crashed near Clark County, Washington.
Rosenblum was the author of 9 novels. She also received the Sidewise Award for Alternate History Short Form for the story Sacrifice in 2009. She is the cousin of science fiction author Brian Groover, a fan active in Baltimore SF fandom.

Please note that Mary’s crash was in in rural Clark County, Washington (just across the Columbia from Portland, Oregon), not Nevada.

I’m in shock, like so many. She was a good friend, an amazing writer, and my writing mentor. She flew me to Pacific City for lunch back in 2012, the year after I finished my studies with her. She’ll be missed very much.
I saw the story on the local evening news tonight (since the site was only about 30 miles north of our house), but they hadn’t identified the victim at that point.
It was a huge shock when her name was released.
Oh no. 🙁

*Sigh*… Go to a convention for three days and somehow the news continues without me.
I published an interview with her by T. Jackson King in Science Fiction Chronicle, and still have it as a 74k Word file, if anyone is interested.
Sad, for she was a crisp, brilliant woman.
I am devastated. She had just helped me finish my first book and was so looking forward to seeing it in print. She was so encouraging, dedicated.
My heartfelt condolences to her family.
