Cats Sleep on SFF: Best New SF 16

P. F. Nel asks —

Does this count?

The cat is sitting on me while I’m trying to read SF.

The book is Best New SF 16, the Robinson (UK) version of Gardner Dozois’s The Year’s Best Science Fiction: Twentieth Annual Collection.

Photos of other felines resting on genre works (or fans?) are welcome. Send to mikeglyer (at) cs (dot) com

  1. Hey, how do I point Mike to a mildly bizarre piece of SF news?

The Black Library has recently announced they are starting a line of YA books set in the Warhammer 40K and Age of Sigmar settings. The settings that literally coined the term “Grimdark.” Gods of Rape, Slaughter and insanity, xenos whose only reason for existence is pain and perversion, and the ostensible good guys are ruled over by an undead Emperor who consumes thousands of souls a day to simply keep reality on track. Relatively.

    Warhammer Adventures, for kids!

For the record, I think this could actually be a good idea for growing their fanbase and ushering in a new generation, if done with tact and finesse. These are things that GW has had a… spotty record with. And of course the wailing and gnashing of teeth from the old guard has already started.

The story where I found it.

  2. Or a great set of claws — that sweater is a cat-catch just waiting to happen….

  3. @P. F. Nel: Hahaha, yes, it counts. It’s the transitive property! You have SF, the cat’s on you, therefore the cat’s on SF! Simple cat math, really. 😉
