Neil Clarke, Guest Curator

The dust has barely settled on our special Beyond Blacula reading (does dust ever settle on vampires?) and yet it’s already time to prepare for the regular November 2nd reading.  And this one is a doozy!  Neil Clarke has brought us two wonderful writers from his Hugo Award-winning magazine Clarkesworld in time to celebrate its 50th issue.

Desirina Boskovich is a graduate of the Clarion class of 2007. As a freelance writer, she specializes in weird, fantastic and unlikely things, both true and imaginary. Her work has appeared in Clarkesworld Magazine, Realms of Fantasy, Last Drink Bird Head, Fantasy Magazine and Lightspeed Magazine, and is forthcoming in The Way of the Wizard (edited by John Joseph Adams). She’s also working on a novel. Find her online at crackingdes.livejournal.com.

Genevieve Valentine‘s World-Fantasy-Award-nominated short fiction has appeared in, or is forthcoming from: Running with the Pack, The Living Dead 2, The Way of the Wizard, Teeth, Clarkesworld, Strange Horizons, and more. Her first novel, Mechanique, is forthcoming from Prime Books in 2011. Her appetite for bad movies in insatiable, a tragedy she tracks on her blog, genevievevalentine.com.

Clarkesworld is a monthly science fiction and fantasy magazine first published in October 2006 by its publisher and editor, Neil Clarke.  Each issue contains at least two pieces of original fiction from new and established authors.  The magazine’s fiction is also collected by issue in chapbooks (some signed), ebook editions and annually in the print anthology, Realms. Winner of the 2010 Hugo Award for Best Semi-prozine, Clarkesworld has just published its 50th issue, available, of course, at clarkesworldmagazine.com .

The New York Review of Science Fiction Reading Series provides performances from some of the best writers in science fiction, fantasy, speculative fiction, etc. The series usually takes place the first Tuesday of every month, but maintains flexibility in time and place, so be sure to stay in touch through the mailing list and the Web.
