Stu Shiffman Report 6/29

Stu Shiffman continues to make progress since his stroke in mid-June and the surgeries that followed.

Earlier this week doctors did an MRI and ran a 24-hour EEG to check for seizures, finding no signs of any.

On June 28, he was given a tracheotomy and the breathing tube removed. (There is still a nose-tube for feeding purposes.) Having been sedated through that, he was not expected to be responsive ‘til sometime today.

Tom Whitmore, who writes Stu’s journal at CaringBridge, anticipates Stu will be able to try talking soon.

There’s also an appeal for funds to help Andi Shecter’s transportation expenses back and forth to the hospital – for details, see the CaringBridge journal entry for June 27 at 6:12 p.m.

  1. Please accept my thanks for continuing to get the word out about Stu. I am with him every day.
(And can I correct the spelling of my last name because I’m very fussy? It’s SHECHTER, not Schecter. Very common error.)
    Thank you.

  2. Hi Andi. Count my hopes and prayers among the support fandom is giving to you and Stu in these scary times.

I’ve corrected the spelling of your name in these posts too. Seems I knew how to spell it at one point, but the other day when I realized that I had spelled it two different ways in the same post I went back and made the spelling consistent in all of them…consistently wrong. That’s all fixed now.

  3. Uh, Mike, I don’t mean to be a jerk here, really, but you need to check your tags for the spelling correction, too, if WordPress allows that (I’m not familiar with the software at all). The tag above this message is still misspelled with regard to Ms Shechter’s surname.

Feel free to delete this afterward.
