Asher and Walsh Recognized by WFC

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

Michael Swanwick’s Flogging Babel posted a photo of World Fantasy Award winners Ellen Asher and Michael Walsh and these very nice compliments:

Two of those good people are shown above: Michael Walsh, of Old Earth Books, for Old Earth Books and especially for publishing Howard Waldrop, and Ellen Asher, who received a lifetime achievement award for her career at the Science Fiction Book Club. They are Heroes of Literature, the both of them.

Walsh copied the news to me in an e-mail titled “What happens to past worldcon chairs…” I hope Christian McGuire is reading – he’s always happy to hear we can go back to being useful members of society.

2009 World Fantasy Con Changes Dates

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

The 2009 World Fantasy Con will be held October 29-November 1 instead of the following weekend, as originally announced. The hotel asked the committee to move to resolve an accidental double-booking. One advantage of the change is that it restores WFC to the Halloween weekend.

Full press release appears after the jump.

Paul Parsons

Saturday, May 24th, 2008

Paul Parsons died on May 19, reports Michael Walsh. According to Aly, Paul’s wife, he died of a sudden heart attack or stroke while driving.

“I’m rather stunned by the news,” Walsh wrote online. “[Paul and Aly] were part of the Unicon group, probably attended WSFA ages ago, but also, for the 2003 World Fantasy Con in D.C. were in charge of programming (and did a fine job).” They also created the restaurant guide for the Capclave in Silver Spring.
