Each year the American Film Institute recognizes the year’s most culturally and artistically significant films and television programs with the AFI Awards.

Its goal is to honor the entertainment community’s creative teams as a whole, celebrating the collaborative nature of the art form.

Honorees will gather on January 8, 2016 at the awards luncheon, “a noncompetitive and intimate event where AFI will reveal the jury rationales for each selection.”

  1. One wonders if they waited an extra day to publish the list so they could include Star Wars and actually say they saw the movie before it was included.

    I am surprised that the TV category did not include Crazy Ex-Girlfriend…anybody else have a favorite they think should have been included?

  2. I thought “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and “The Flash” were enjoyable television, particularly good entries in the superhero genre.

    However, I will freely admit that my television viewing is extremely limited in scope and focused in subject. I know little about most of these winners, so I will proffer my congratulations to them and accept the judgement of people with a lot more depth of understanding of the field than I have.

    Good job, everyone!
