BAFTA Award Nominations

Five science fiction films are among the 10 receiving the most nominations for the 2016 British Academy Film Awards. The winners will be announced February 14.

Animated Film nominees are Inside Out, Minions and Shaun the Sheep Movie. 

Inside Out’s writers also are nominated for Original Screenplay.

As one would expect, sf movies monopolized the visual effects category.

Special Visual Effects

  • Ant-Man, Jake Morrison, Greg Steele, Dan Sudick, and Alex Wuttke
  • Ex Machina, Mark Adington, Sara Bennett, Paul Norris, and Andrew Whitehurst
  • Mad Max: Fury Road, Andrew Jackson, Dan Oliver, Tom Wood, and Andy Williams
  • The Martian, Chris Lawurence, Tim Ledbury, Richard Stammers, and Steven Warner
  • Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Chris Corbould, Roger Guyett, Paul Kavanagh, and Neal Scanlan

The EE Rising Star Award nominees included The Force Awaken’s John Boyega.

  1. Shaun the Sheep was better than almost all of the films on the general nomination list. If you haven’t seen it, please do. (Then again, I think that Inside Out is overrated and doesn’t even make the top five Pixar films…)
