Cats Sleep on SFF: The Cackle of Cthulhu

Mocha sleeping on Laura Resnick’s contributor copies of The Cackle of Cthulhu (ed. Alex Shvartsman).

Mocha is a foster cat, available for adoption from http://catadoptionteam.net/. She is currently considering applications from prospective servants who are suitably submissive to her will.

  1. Now someone needs to write an SF novel, with a cover illustration containing a lounging cat-shaped void that says “Place Credential Here (if cat cooperates, but no doubt the cat will choose to lie in a position not aligning with the space shown here)”

  2. They should have a cat exhibition at Worldcon with pictures of all cats at nearby cat shelters together with SF paraphernalia and descriptions of our feline overlords. Might help some fan to find their new kitteh.

  3. A convention I work for has an annual charity (as do many conventions); a few years ago they chose a no-kill animal shelter. I gather that they adopted out many cats, dogs, and rabbits from the exposure. (Not to mention raising the money they needed to keep doing their good work.)

Hampus: Try suggesting that at [email protected] and/or [email protected] Or possibly Exhibits@. The worst they can do is say no.

  5. Since I started fostering, each year (at the invitation of the hosts) I take a litter of adoptable kittens, with their supplies and playpen, to Chili Con, a local open-house weekend sf/f party attended by (I’m guessing) about a hundred people.

The kitties get a lot of attention there, and a few people have fallen in love with them… But what I have found is that sf/f fans are disinclined to adopt, because most of them already have a bunch of cats at home. 🙂

  6. I’d ask her opinion on the book she’s resting by, however it appears she wouldn’t want to give a subjective opinion and would prefer just to stick to the fax.

  7. Matt Y <groan!> I dunno; I think she’s not had time to fully read it; she’s just scanned it…

When I was married, we ended with nine for the last few years or marriage. When we got divorced eight years ago (I think though I’ve lost most of the last decade in my multiple death experiences), she took four and I took three. One of mine and two of hers have passed with Mabinogion passing on sometime in the last several years at least twenty three years of age.

Puck, my oldest, was put to sleep at eighteen while I spent (apparently) the better part of three weeks in hospital. It turned out he had a tumor where I thought he had an eye infection. He was eighteen most likely.

So visiting anywhere where these loving creatures are for adoption except for Longfellow Books is not on my to do list. And frankly two in my condition is quite enough, thank you!
