Cats Sleep on SFF: The Empire Strikes Back

Von Dimpleheimer returns to those thrilling days of yesteryear:

I can’t answer the call to provide more photos of cats on SFF, but what about cats on SFF fans during the Golden Age of SF–when they were 12? Whiskey passed away decades ago, the couch and VHS tapes (one of which was The Empire Strikes Back) are long gone, but I still have the blanket that my mother made from my childhood t-shirts.

P.S. Judging from the box of tissues and that I was lying on the couch with a pillow and blanket, I must have had a cold. Sadly, I do not recall that applying a cat to the torso hastened my recovery. But such a potentially groundbreaking medical treatment should not be dismissed from one data point, so I recommend Filers test it for themselves.

Photos of other felines resting on genre works are welcome. Send to mikeglyer (at) cs (dot) com

  1. I commend to Filers’ attention Ursula K Le Guin’s illustrated treatise, “A Visit from Dr. Katz”.

  2. I’m quite certain application of cat to torso hastened my recovery from many a cold. Or at least, made me less miserable! Much thanks to you and Whiskey for your vital contribution to this research.

  3. I can provide independent corroboration that a liberal application of cats provides immediate, long-term relief for not only illnesses, but also for broken wrists, surgery recoveries, and divorces. 🐱

  4. However, applying cats when you’ve had abdominal surgery is a tricky business, as can be attested by all hooman members of this household, past and present. It’s even worse when they decide to use you as a trampoline to get elsewhere.

  5. Oh, we crazy Austrians even invented a “purring machine” to heal back pain and such. For all who don´t have a cat. So actually a lot of people believe in the healing powers of a purring cat. 😉
