People have demanded change, so the corporation that brought you the 56th World Science Fiction Convention (Bucconeer) is changing.  Baltimore Worldcon 1998, Inc., a 501(C)(3) charitable and educational organization, is the now the Baltimore-Washington Area Worldcon Association, Inc.

The change reflects its broader purpose of promoting the science fiction and fantasy genre rather than a specific event.  In the years since hosting Bucconeer, the corporation has furthered its educational purpose through projects such as the Student Science Fiction and Fantasy Contest (1998-2006) and providing sponsorship and information to international bids for Worldcons.  Its members will continue to look for opportunities to promote the genre, including exploring the possibility of hosting future genre events.

Peggy Rae Sapienza, Corresponding Secretary
