Independence Day: Resurgence — Official Trailer

The stars of Independence Day: Resurgence — Liam Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, Sela Ward — include a surprisingly large number of holdovers from the 1996 original. In theaters June 24, 2016.

Also of interest is the War of 1996 website which treats the events and intervening years as documentary history, although I found it maddening to use on my computer.

  1. My strongest memory of Independence Day is actually the theatrical trailers, which ended with a URL on the screen. And everyone in the theater laughed, because who puts up websites for movies…..? <wry>

  2. Brent Spiner? He died in the original, as I recall. Unless they found a new head and plopped on him, a la Data…

  3. That website’s actually pretty interesting. Although I laughed out loud at the notion that the “touchscreen smartphone, bladeless fans, drones and airport security scanners” came from alien technology….

And I guess Will Smith’s character died testing an alien craft in the interim.

  4. I guess when your first attack fails the only thing to do is build a ship the size of a hemisphere.

  5. Which is silly. All they’d have to do is lob a few Chicxulub-sized asteroids at the planet, and the war would be over. They wouldn’t even have to enter the atmosphere.

    …See, already I’m picking it apart…

  6. Logic exited Independence Day in the first scene, when nobody spotted the Alien mothership until it reached Lunar orbit.

  7. Well… we saw what *looked* like Brent Spiner being mauled by the alien in a glass cage. But maybe the aliens outside of their suits aren’t all that tough, and Brent actually kicked his ass when the audience wasn’t looking?

Actually, about all the invaders would have to do to polish us off as a global civilization is set Saudi Arabia on fire… a week of burning oil ought to push us over onto the path of becoming a second Venus.
