Medical Progress Report

jan  howard finder was released from the hospital on August 24:

The doctor decided I could face the world. The stents were doing what they are supposed to do.

He planned to stay in Reno a couple of days before returning home.

Bill Patterson, meanwhile, was in ICU at Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles until Thursday, August 25 when he was moved to a hospital room. He is expected to be there several more days.

  1. I knew Bill was in the hospital, but I didn’t know he was in the ICU. He was very ill indeed.

I’m glad he’s recovered enough to be transferred to a regular med/surg unit.

  2. I just talked to Bill, who’s in Cedar Sinai Hospital. He was ill through worldcon and Monday became feverish.

He had a necrotic small right toe, which has been amputated. They are going to operate further too. This arises from his diabetes.

He managed as well as he could at worldcon and now will take weeks in hospital.

  3. It’s no secret that my opinion of Bill Patterson is not a positive one. But a necrotic infection is nothing to wish on anyone. (That’s what caused our friend Anne Braude’s death several years ago.) So even I hope Bill recovers quickly.
