“Tardigrades Dev Suing CBS For Star Trek: Discovery Plagiarism” at One Angry Gamer

For those of you unfamiliar with the case, Tardigrades is a point-and-click adventure game that was announced and submitted onto Steam Greenlight in November of 2014. Tardigrades was later voted through Steam Greenlight back on November 13th, 2015.

On November 2nd, 2015, a year after Tardigrades was announced and barely two weeks before Tardigrades was greenlit, CBS TelevisionStudios announced Star Trek: Discovery, revealing that the show would premiere in January of 2017.

Abdin alleges that CBS stole a number of ideas from his game, including that the giant blue tardigrades used in the game to teleport people across the galaxy are also featured in Star Trek: Discovery as giant blue creatures that power the ability to teleport people across the galaxy.

  • Star Trek Kiss

Roddenberry has gone on record in front of the camera that even though the advertisers and the executives feared an avalanch of angry letters, the studio never got one letter disapproving of the biracial kiss.

“This’ Star Trek’ Kiss Was Iconic — But Not for the Reason You’ve Heard”

  • Star Trek and Native Americans
  • Next Generation’s android versus Voyager’s hologram
  • Discovery is Star Trek but with a different DNA

Well researched, insightful, convincing contrast between classic Trek and Discovery Trek.  Makes the case that Discovery is a distinctly different species.  If you’ve ever said to yourself, “I can’t quite put my finger on it, but there something different about Discovery,” if you’ve watched other documentaries on this subject but are still sitting on the fence, this video will settle the issues for you.

  • Voyager’s get out of jail free card

It’s commonly agreed among Trekkies that Deep Space Nine is much darker than Voyager.  Dave Cullen takes it further.  Focusing on the Equinox episodes, he views Janeway’s moral rectitude as a flaw and accuses Voyager of repeatedly abusing a get out of jail free card.  While he makes a compelling case for the GOJFC, Cullen views the nucleogenic species being harvested as cows and chickens – animals humans consume for survival. He compares the harvesting to fishing. He seems to forget that Voyager hijacked an Ankari ship, kidnapped its pilot, and drafted him into service to translate with the species being slaughtered by the Equinox’s crew.  Janeway and the Nucleogens, if I can call them that, fully understand each other and communicate in complete, sophisticated sentences about profound social issues, just as Star Trek personnel communicate with many other alien species.  They demanded justice.  Sounds like intelligent, sentient beings to me.
