Lovecraft Film Festival Returns To San Pedro 4/29

7 HPL Film Festival Poster COMP

The 7th Annual H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival’s eldritch offerings will blaze forth upon the Warner Grand Theatre screen from April 29-May 1. The event takes place in San Pedro, CA where the Festival’s featured guests will be —

  • Joseph S. Pulver (novels The Orphan Palace, and Nightmare’s Disciple, collections Blood Will Have Its Season, SIN & ashes, and Portraits of Ruin)
  • Leeman Kessler (the web-series Ask Lovecraft)
  • Pete von Sholly (HP Lovecraft Illustrated vol 1, Pete Von Sholly’s History of Monsters)
  •  Frank Woodward (documentary Lovecraft: Fear of the Unknown, SyFy movie Black Forest)
  •  Joshua Hoffine (horror photographer)
  • Lee Joyner (known in the Lovecraft community for his H.P. Lovecraft bust and his Key of Cthulhu statue)
  •  Mike Dubisch (artist)
  •  Paul Komoda (artist)
  •  Sean O’Reilly (creator and writer of the Kade comic book series; also producing Continuum, based on his graphic novel, with Relativity as well as Amnesia with Sony Entertainment. In addition to writing, Sean has directed and produced the entire thirteen episode season for the animated TV series Kagagi.)

And a film festival would not be complete without a few films: Din of the Celestial Birds (2006), The Dunwich Horror (1970), and The Mist (2007) will be shown.

A bevy of sponsors contribute to the event in various ways. The promotion for Lovecraft Wines strikes just the right discordant note:

There are a few who still believe that a grape drinks up more than just the acidity or the moisture from the soil; it also soaks up the soul of the growing-place. And there are still a few who believe that the hands and hearts of the people who make a wine are translated into its flavor, body and aroma.

Those pitiful fools could not stop us from growing and pressing the wines of Lovecraft Country.

We have learned that there is much more to cultivation than sun, water and arable land. Indeed, from the brackish sinks of Innsmouth to the untamable hills of Dunwich, powerful forces may be appeased to insure our vineyards thrive without any of those other things*. And from the brazen hooves that crush our grapes to the vintage colonial Arkham coffin-boards we use to make our barrels, we take extravagant pains to achieve the kind of wine you’ll want to be drinking when you finally realize that life is an accident or joke, and the joke is on mankind.

*–Note that we hold ourselves harmless for any allergic reactions that may follow from exposure to trace amounts of crawling chaos in our seasonal select wines.
