Influential Hong Kong movie producer Run Run Shaw died January 7 at the age of 107. He produced over 1,000 movies, a handful of them U.S. films, including 1982 sf classic Blade Runner and 1979 disaster thriller Meteor.

Even if most of his work was not in our genre, his philosophy perfectly suited the great moguls of sf and comics. The quality of the films was not his foremost concern — “We’re here to make money,” he told Time.
