Where the 770 Comes From

Mike Resnick educates readers about the history of fandom in the February 2008 installment of his “In My Opinion” column for Jim Baen’s Universe. As he explains early on:

Even Mike Glyer’s Hugo-winning fanzine, File 770, is named for the most famous fannish party of all, held in Room 770 of the 1951 Worldcon hotel in New Orleans.

Entirely true. Thanks to Mike for reminding me to explain the title to people who are having their first encounter with File 770 through this blog. See, it has nothing to do with cell phones at all…
