Gwynplaine MacIntyre in “Baby Peggy”

This evening, December 3, Turner Classic Movies ran the documentary Baby Peggy: The Elephant in the Room about the last surviving actor from the silent films, from 8 to 9 p.m., Eastern time.

Reports Andrew Porter:

Imagine my surprise when, at about 16 minutes into the film, there was F. Gwynplaine MacIntyre, expressing his appreciation for the actress at a film festival in, I believe, the Netherlands, and asking to have his photo taken with her.

The documentary repeats December 3 at 11:30 p.m., Eastern time.

  1. I always thought that Carla Laemmle, who recently celebrated her 103rd birthday was the oldest silent movie actor?

  2. I’m not suprised at a “Froggy” pop up. I developed an opinion of his Munchausian habits, and would do anything to get noted.

He once told me he worked for Month Python. I asked Graham Chapman if he knew him. He had no idea who I was talking about.

  3. Thanks. There are several people I know and often we get together and wonder how many of the Our Gang “kids” are still living. Up until lsast year Jackie Cooper was still among the living. Robert Blake doesn’t count, because we excluse everything after 1938.
