Ann Methe Passes Away

Montreal fan Ann Methe succumbed to cancer October 5.

Leading Canadian sf writer Robert J. Sawyer saluted her on Twitter as “one of Canada’s great science-fiction convention runners.”

Methe was past chair of Con*Cept, formerly run by the MonSFFA. She won an Aurora Award in 1999 for her work on Con*Cept and was nominated two other times.

She also worked on the 2009 Montreal Worldcon, Anticipation, as a hotel liaison.

She is survived by her husband, artist Jean-Pierre Normand.

  1. This is dreadfully sad news. Ann and Jean-Pierre were wonderful hosts during my 2009 TAFF trip, ensuring I destressed after my first-ever transAtlantic flight and (with the support of other members of MonSFFA) making certain I was geared up for the Montreal Worldcon. My heart goes out to Jean-Pierre at this time.

  2. This is really horrible news. She was a wonderful person, and she made her husband, Jean-Pierre, a better person. I stayed with them in Montreal several times, and their hospitality was wonderful, as were their cats.

She also owned L’Exchange, a store which sold CDs, books, DVDs.

She had been battling cancer for a long time, and alas, it always came back. Originally from Chicago, she is also survived by, I think, two daughters.

  3. We are deeply saddned by Ann’s passing. she was a very strong, self-made, accomplished woman. her love of literature, world travel and cuisine just scratch the surface of her depth. Ann is survived by her loving husband Jean-pierre Normand, and daughters Elise Charbonneau – Viouillomoz , Marianne Charbonneau
grandsons Josh, Sam & Leo Clark
the Daughter of the late George & Lorraine Methe
Sister of the late Georege Methe Jr., Mark Methe ( Xena Zed ), John ( Jackie ),
Mike, Jim ( Tracy ), Mary ( Ron ) Hitzler, Elizabeth ( Rich ) Parenti
and 12 loving nieces and nephews
