Masked Filers Reading SFF: Exhalation

Steve Wright is actually reading two books – that’s why he needs to keep his hair out of both eyes.

I’m reading Ted Chiang’s Exhalation collection (for the 2020 Hugos) and Leigh Brackett’s The Nemesis from Terra (or “Shadow Over Mars” for the Retros), and quite impossible to hide the fact that I seriously need a haircut.

(Say, if he’s shaggy, where’s Scooby?)

Masked Filers Reading SFF: Hella

Steve Davidson – remind me, what’s that magazine he’s affiliated with? – is the first on his block to see these fine new pages:

Books don’t make for good masks, but this soon-to-be-released novel from David Gerrold is a great read!

Comes out June 16, 2020

Masked Filers Reading SFF:
Time Master

Joe H. keeps his mask on while rereading this long-time favorite:

In the Before Times I did the bulk of my reading when I was out and about, so for the past several years I was reading almost exclusively on my Kindle for portability and convenience.  Now that out and about no longer exists, I’ve taken the opportunity to go back to some of my old paperbacks.  Louise Cooper’s Time Master trilogy was a favorite of mine back in the day; now I’m revisiting it for the first time in probably 25+ years and still enjoying it.

Masked Filers Reading SFF: Network Effect

Who was that masked Murderbot reader? Lace — with the new release in one hand and a prior story in the other.

Being fortunate enough to have an employer who’s treating us very well, and a WFH-able job, I decided to use some of the money I’m not spending on gas for instant gratification and valuable sanity points. Re-reading the novellas first.

Masked Filers Reading SFF:
After Atlas

Goobergunch is passing the time with a book while he awaits his next social distancing opportunity.

I’ve been taking advantage of the library’s ebook lending program to do some Hugo reading during shelter-in-place. Here’s me reading After Atlas by Emma Newman, and wishing cloudLibrary had the subsequent two Planetfall novels. (Not that I’m likely to run out of books to read any time soon.)

The mask is my cold-weather hiking balaclava; I’m a little envious of everyone who’s creative enough to have a mask that’s both fancy and effective.

Masked Filers Reading SFF: The Girl With No Face

Kendall volunteered to kick off a series inspired by the latest worldwide fashion statement.

I’m too shy to take my own photo and I don’t promise I’m reading all of these right now, but here is a photo for the new feature.

Cry Fox (“Rivers of London” graphic novel), Zero at the Bone written by Jane Seville and art by Son Gaepi (manga adaptation of the novel), No Way by S.J. Morden, The Girl With No Face by M.H. Boroson, Before Mars by Emma Newman, and Black Leopard, Red Wolf by Marlon James.
