Actor Jessie Usher has also been cast in the lead, playing the son of Will Smith’s character from the original film. Smith himself is not expected to return.
Emmerich, in addition to directing, will produce the film alongside Dean Devlin and Haral Kloser.
Why? I thought we had burned through that wave of disaster films? It wasn’t that compelling a story, and we blewed up the aliens already. What are they going to do? Introduce a second, even bigger mother ship to destroy
more of the Earth than last time?
Well, some sequels tended to be redundant. Like the TRANSFORMER films. I don’t expect anything but louder and bigger explosions.
INDEPENDENCE DAY has the one fine take of Brent Spiner doing an impersonation of a nerdy Science Fiction fan. He had to have met some, as that character was too closer for comfort. (No, it wasn’t me.)
Told my son Leo of this factoid, and he said that in that universe “there are probably other hives and they stay in touch,” and a missing one is cause to investigate.
