J.C. Suares Passes Away

Rocketship SuaresGraphic designer J. C. Suares, whose many books included Rocketship: An Incredible Voyage Through Science Fiction and Science Fact, with Robert Malone (Harper & Row, 1977), died July 30 in a New York City hospital of a bacterial heart infection. He was 71.

Suares was infinitely better known outside the genre for redesigining Variety in the 1990s and writing and illustrating over 100 books including including Hollywood Dogs, Funny Babies, Manhattan, and Art of the Times.
