Loncon 3 Receives Record Number of Hugo Votes

Loncon 3 received 3,587 valid ballots for the 2014 Hugo Awards, far exceeding the record of 2,100 set by Renovation in 2011.

Participation in the 1939 Retro Hugo Awards was strong as well with 1,307 valid ballots cast.

Loncon 3 announces record participation in the 2014 Hugo Awards!

London, 7 August 2014 – Loncon 3, the 72nd World Science Fiction Convention being held at London ExCeL from 14-18 August, is proud to announce that it received 3,587 valid ballots for the 2014 Hugo Awards. 3,571 ballots were submitted online through the Loncon 3 website and 16 paper ballots were received. This total eclipses the previous record participation of 2,100 ballots (set by Renovation in 2011) by over 50%. Participation in the 1939 Retro Hugo Award process was strong as well with 1,307 valid ballots being received: 1,295 submitted electronically and 12 by postal mail.

The winners will be announced at ceremonies held at Loncon 3. The 1939 Retro Hugo Awards Ceremony will be held on Thursday 14 August 2014 at 8pm BST (3pm EDT, 12pm PDT) hosted by Mary Robinette Kowal and Rob Shearman. The 2014 Hugo Awards Ceremony will be held on Sunday 17 August also at 8pm BST (3pm EDT, 12pm PDT) hosted by Justina Robson and Geoff Ryman.

Both ceremonies will be streamed live online free of charge, to enable fans around the world to watch. The video stream will be located at http://www.ustream.tv/hugo-awards. The 2014 Hugo Awards Ceremony will also have an accompanying text stream using CoverItLive for people who cannot use the video stream. Full voting details will be released through the Loncon 3 website at the conclusion of each award ceremony.
