The trip takes a deadly turn when their hibernation pods mysteriously wake them 90 years before they reach their destination. 1. Spoiler: The film really starts to get exciting when The Doctor and Sarah Jane show up. And, since Passengers is apparently a remake of The Ark in Space, perhaps the special effects of this newfangled version will be an improvement over green bubble wrap…

  2. I don’t know anything about this movie beside what’s in this post.

    The concept sounds cool, and I really like that the trailer focuses on the characters, setting, and SF-nal concept – this looks well-balanced and at least decently written. It’s focusing on interesting stuff, not on action and special effects.

    All that being said, my first reaction was, “Ooooh, a new starring role for Jennifer Lawrence!”.

    And then… zilch. Nada.

    This is apparently a film with two characters in it, but one of them doesn’t seem be doing anything.

    Pratt is messing around with future technology in his lab, sending a cute robot over to Lawrence, who is… sitting in an empty room, drinking coffee.

    And it continues, all through the trailer. Pratt does stuff, Lawrence… mostly wails. There’s one shot of her dragging an unconscious Pratt (she’s sobbing).

    Come morning I found Abigail Nussbaum raised this much more succinctly on Twitter:

    #Passengers: even in a 160sec trailer, it’s striking how passive Lawrence’s character is, compared to Pratt.

    Feels like a really blatant case of He Does Things, She Feels Things.

    ::sigh::

  3. Cool looking ship though.

    And Lawrence does get to crawl across the table to kiss Pratt. Thats…. something, I suppose. Not sure what however.
