Top 10 Posts for September 2019

How should Archive of Our Own users identify themselves now that their site is a Hugo winner? Some Worldcon members and AO3 participants had strong, conflicting opinions about that. Yet others thought surely they could explain things to everyone’s satisfaction. I told a friend it was the perfect storm of “Someone is wrong on the internet!” and “You are not the boss of me!” In the end, the September 14 Scroll gathered 747 comments, and once that closed the discussion continued for another 405 comments on the September 19 Scroll.

That September 14 tally was the second highest here in the last three years, and only 48 shy of the count for “Origins Game Fair Drops Larry Correia as Guest” of blessed memory.

Even so, the AO3 discussion has nearly been eclipsed by the post about Dan Simmons that went online only five days ago.

And all that is after the month began with an extraordinary number of readers continuing to seek out George R.R. Martin’s comments about his Worldcon party, first posted on August 31.

Fans had a lot to talk about in September.

  1. Eh, I’d say that the Dan Simmons discussion has already more or less died away.
