19 thoughts on “Worldcon 75 In Memoriam List

  1. Tom Endtey is on the list twice, date of death given as mid-February, name listed at the middle and at the end of February. Is that intentional?

  2. Rich Lynch: Gene Wilder was a Hugo Award winner??

I had the same reaction awhile back. Gene Wilder wrote Hugo-winner Young Frankenstein, and as you know, it’s the scriptwriters who are nominally the winners of the Dramatic Presentation Hugos. (Which isn’t to say they’re the ones who always end up with the rocket.)

  3. Dan Hauschild “Takaza” was also on the list, which made me tear up. He was a good friend.

  4. I don’t love the need, but I love that Worldcon uses the most-watched event to celebrate and mourn those who have left us. True respect for this.

  5. Seeing my fellow filkers names on this list means a lot to me. Thank you, WorldCon.

Is there someplace people send the names in, or is some indefatigable volunteer combing all the fannish spaces to find these names?

  6. There always are a few people on these memorium lists I didn’t know had died. Rich Tucholka was one this year. He was a creative force in RPGs as the publisher and lead designer at Tri Tac Games.

Has In Memorium ever featured photos of some of the people noted?

This year’s music was well chosen.

  7. MidAmeriCon had a page for submissions and listing of bios of those who were included. Our plan is for Worldcon 76 (San Jose) to also have a page where people can submit for consideration and which will provide bios of those who are included.

Or people can e-mail me directly.

  8. rcade: While the Nebula In Memoriam includes photos, it is rare for the Hugo In Memoriam to do so because the list tends to be longer. Very occasionally, it has included a few photos of some of the memorialized.

  9. @Soon Lee. –thank you!
@Steven H Silver–thank you for the work you have put into the in memoriam list. I think it is important to have this annual way to mark the passing of our fellow fen. I appreciate your efforts.

  10. Strange that Alan Dorey — fanzine publisher and a founding editor of Interzone — should be listed as “Bookseller”. Richard Dalby was principally known as an editor of horror/supernatural anthologies; he was a scholar of that genre but not in fact an academic.

  11. Hey Steven–thanks for remembering Dan. Meant a lot to a lot of people in furry fandom.
