I have ONE Ace Double, found in a Half Price Books long ago…The Wagered Word by Janifer/Treibich and Tonight We Steal the Stars by John Jakes. The Jakes has a great cover by Frank Kelly Freas. Maybe not a rare book, but treasured in my collection nonetheless.
I have a nearly complete set of the Ace Doubles. Bought the first ones when I was maybe 10 or so—and still have them. Afraid to take them down off the shelf and try to reread them, because they might turn to dust. That crappy paper they were printed on wasn’t meant to last 75 years…
Oh, and no cats have ever slept on or nearby any of them!
A lovely cat with sophisticated tastes.
Andrew Porter: For sure. When I was buying used Ace Doubles in the Seventies the cheap paper was already aging rapidly.
It might be safest to just have your copies dipped in lucite!
I have a copy of that Ace Double that I bought at a convention a few years back, still in the dealer’s plastic bag. I have later copies of both books, just couldn’t resist buying this one.
Yep, I’ve read a few of those! Adorable kitty.
Mmmm. surely any feline (worth its nine lives of salt (*)) should at least be “purring” on any Batman novel-esp any which contains (from the TV series 3rd season) Eartha Kitt as Catwoman…?? [ * mixing my metaphors here..! ] Best..as ever…
I remember seeinng that Ace Double in my dad’s collection (not going to look to see if I still have it). Lovely kitty.
