Ellison Coming To The Simpsons

Harlan Ellison announced yesterday on his message board: “It’s on! For the 25th anniversary of THE SIMPSONS, the script will include Harlan Ellison performing Harlan Ellison!!!!!!!! Caloo callay!”

He will join the array of writers who have visited the series, listed by a commenter as — Stephen King, John Updike, Thomas Pynchon (twice), Gore Vidal, Amy Tan, J.K. Rowling, Tom Clancy, Michael Chabon, Jonathan Franzen, James Patterson, Alan Moore, Mitch Albom, David Mamet and Neil Gaiman.

Getting cast in The Simpsons trumps Harlan’s appearance on Scooby Doo a few years back.

  1. Appearing as “lost” on the back of milk cartons trumps a guest appearance on Scooby Doo. Had I been in Ellison’s shoes I would have scored the suggestion. The Simpsons, however, is a whole different Kettle of Gefilte Fish. It puts Ellison “right up there” with John Waters, Rodney Dangerfield, Winona Ryder and Sab Shimono!

  2. I would love to see Harlan on The Big Bang Theory going head to head with Sheldon.

  3. Perhaps like Scrooge, pursued by various Christmas ghosts, he could be fleeing from, and ultimately finding justice from or showing repentance to, the ghosts of the many now-dead authors whom he screwed by not getting their stories published in Last Dangerous Visions.
