The winners of the 2024 EE BAFTA Film Awards were unveiled by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts on February 18. Oppenheimer led the field winning seven awards. Poor Things won five.
Host David Tennant appeared in an opening sketch:
Afterwards he came onstage and quipped, “Tonight’s going to go smoother than Ken’s chest,” referencing the plastic doll in Barbie (which by the end of the evening had lost all four awards it was up for.)
Michael J. Fox “brought people to tears” in a surprise appearance to present the Best Film award.
Back To The Future star Michael J Fox, who is living with Parkinson’s disease, made a surprise appearance at the Baftas to present the best film award.
The 62-year-old actor came onstage in a wheelchair but insisted on standing up at the podium to hand out the prize to Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.
Fox received a standing ovation, with many social media users posting that they were in tears seeing him on stage.
He was diagnosed in the 1990s and rarely makes public appearances.
