  1. I quite liked all 3 of those cons and the facility, so count me in. In my 40+ years in fandom, the locations I’ve had the best Worldcon experiences in are Anaheim and Chicago. Good teams, good facilities.

    Plus, Disneyland is right there!

It probably won’t be as hot as Cairo. Either bid is going to have warm weather, and did before global warming.

  2. Cairo had me at the Hugos will be at the foot fhe Great Pyramids but.. Los Angeles has an hour’s flight away from me. I did the equivalent of friending the bid.

  3. Cairo, in another country where being a homosexual is likely illegal, and being Jewish also isn’t the greatest. How’s that bid for Uganda coming along, anyway?

  4. Even for those outwith North America, LA is easier to get to, with direct flights from Europe and Down Under. Likely cheaper than Egypt from many places, too, such as South America and much of Asia.

Besides @Andrew Porter’s obvious and extremely valid objections, I’d worry about the convention facility/hotel situations. Not to mention the lack of geo-political stability in that part of the world. Yes, the US has problems, but not like the whole area there has for living memory.

Additionally, LA is great for Spanish speakers, as well as good for Mandarin, Japanese, and so forth. As well as food from all cultures, esp. PROPER Latin American cuisines of all cities/states/countries.
