Masked Filers Reading SFF: Murderbot

Lorien reading Martha Wells’ Network Effect

I’m taking a break from Hugo reading to adventure with Murderbot while wearing a Doctor Who themed mask.

  1. What’s interesting to me about this series is not only seeing other Filers’ masks and books, but seeing their bookcases! (And yeah, I’m almost done with Network Effect myself. Martha Wells should be proud of her fans’ love for Murderbot, that they will interrupt just about anything to dive into her book when it arrives.)

  2. “Social distancing reads” has to be the phrase I would least have expected to run into (at least, not in a positive sense) before the last few months.

On the other hand, I just got my father to read the first of the Murderbot stories, and he’s scrambling about to get his hands on the next one.

  3. What a great photo! I love the credential statuette. Would you be willing to send Mike a close-up of that?

I was talking to a co-worker at our holiday party in December and raving about Murderbot to them; I sent them a link to the first novella. Over the holiday break, I had an e-mail from them that they were already up to novella #3 and had pre-ordered the novel. Murderbot is addictive!

  4. @JJ – Sure, no problem.

With the exception of one person, everyone I’ve recommended Murderbot Diaries to has loved them intensely and ripped through the series. I’ve re-read the novellas several times and have no doubt I’ll be re-reading the novel too.
