Review: Folkmanis Beaked Dragon

Folkmanis Beaked Dragon Hand Puppet

By Lis Carey: Meet Gwenna, the newest arrival in the Carey household.

She’s been here for a few weeks, but I couldn’t introduce her to you until I coaxed her name out of her. She was a bit shy, at first, possibly because she didn’t realize wolves were so large in relation to dragons, as you’ll see later.

Gwenna has lovely to look at and lovely to touch scales, and those on her belly, foot bottoms, insides of her ears, and underside of her wings are very shiny. She also has bright, shiny eyes, and long eyelashes to die for. A truly unexpected feature is the soft fur on her head and tail, and under her chin. Who knew dragons had fur?

Of course, Gwenna is not of a size for a human to ride properly. However, she makes up for it with a pouch on her upper abdomen perfect for sliding your hand in, so that she can ride you. It extends up into her head and neck, and, for those whose fingers are longer than mine, into her beak. With some joint training, you can be a great team, telling stories to the young and young at heart.

Here’s that belly pouch:

The stitching is very fine, and strong, and should stand up well to lots of fun and games.

And here is the promised wolf/dragon comparison.

Gwenna arrived here as a gift.
