5 thoughts on “2019 Bram Stoker Awards Preliminary Ballot Announced

  1. Laura: I kinda like the idea of “Superior Achievement in” instead of “Best” for award categories.

    I do, too.

I’m glad to see Kat Howard’s collection A Cathedral of Myth and Bone on the list. I’m not big on Arthurian retellings, but I thought that her novella Once, Future was a very good, rather unique take on the myth.

I’d also agree that Caitlin Starling’s The Luminous Dead is a good debut novel. There are some plot things with which I’d really quibble, but I loved that she did a really good, well-researched scuba diving novel.

  2. The above has an error. Stephen Jones’ Best New Horror is ineligible (as it’s an all reprint anthology, which is not allowed). Hopefully future statements will fix this.

  3. The Jones anthology has been removed from the preliminary ballot, so I have indicated a change here, too.
