  1. I don’t recognize any of the novels, which surprises me, but that is a really excellent list of short fiction and single-author collections.

  2. I recognize Experimental Film by Gemma Files, though it’s not on my list, and When We Were Animals by Joshua Gaylord, which isn’t on my list but I’m vaguely intrigued by. The Glittering World by Robert Levy is on my list (of books to look into/consider). Clearly I need to read the sample, if it’s being nominated for awards. 😉

  3. Experimental Film really sounds like my kind of thing. I’ll have to take a closer look at these. Gosh, what a novel use for a list of award finalists.

  4. I enjoyed The Glittering World a lot, but found Experimental Film slow and frequently self-indulgent. (I recently read an interview in which Gemma Files mentions that the protagonist is heavily based on her, and I think that . . . shows.)

When We Were Animals has been on my TBR list for a while, and Eileen has now joined it. Lord Byron’s Prophecy has been out since October, yet has only 1 rating on Amazon and 4 ratings on Goodreads. The Shirley Jackson judges might make up the majority of the people who’ve actually read this book thus far.

  6. That spam (since deleted by @Mike Glyer) was my favorite, because in the e-mail, all I saw were a ton of “?” with the word “soap” in the middle somewhere. Good grief.

Mike – sorry you have to deal with silly comment spam on old threads!
