Dublin 2019 Bid Update

The Dublin 2019 Worldcon bid broke through the 800 supporter level at Sasquan, following appearances across Europe and the USA.

This weekend they have a chance to promote the bid locally at Octocon, the National Science Fiction Convention of Ireland, where they will be sponsoring the Ball and hosting a cake party.

Dublin 2019 currently has 813 supporters:

  • 609 Pre-supports
  • 137 Friends
  • 14 Super-Friends
  • 1 Young Friend
  • 28 Backers
  • 24 Subscribers

The bid has released a video by Mark Slater that showcases Dublin and its surroundings to the traditional tune of “The Rocky Road to Dublin,” a jaunty song about a young swain who sets off to make his fortune and undergoes various trials and tribulations on the way. (The committee officially advises anyone “abusing Eire’s Isle” NOT to retaliate by laying about them with a shillelagh!)

  1. Oooooh, best version of Rocky Road to Dublin is the one by Dropkick Murphys. Anyhow, this is one I will help to win as much as possible.

  2. I have never actually been to Octocon, oddly enough.

(that won’t change this year, as it’s the last weekend before pay day)

  3. Would have possibly gone with the Dropkick Murphys were it not for the fact that they’re a U.S. band.
