Oz Books Sell for Top Dollar

AbeBooks top ten most lucrative sales in November included two lots of L. Frank Baum’s Oz books.

In fourth place, selling for $9,500 were three first editions of Sky Island, The Sea Fairies and Rinkitink In Oz published respectively in 1911, 1912, and 1916.

In sixth place, fetching $8,800, was The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, a first edition hardcover published in 1900 containing 24 color plates and illustrations by W.W. Denslow.

By comparison, the top sale of the month was Les Roses, a book of paintings by Belgian artist and botanist Pierre-Joseph Redouté bought for $28,000.
